REASONS TO PAUSE THE PROJECT
Article 21 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states:
The will of the people shall be the basis of the authority of government.
There are significant reasons why this project should be
PAUSED, REVIEWED and REDESIGNED
FLAWED TRAFFIC FORECASTS

The massive intersection design is a result of a massive overestimation of
future traffic levels.

No account of the relief that will flow from the North East Link

Where is the proof that this is what locals want, when there is no evidence in the form of a community consultative report?

LACK OF EVIDENCE,
TRANSPARENCY
&
CONSULTATION

MRPV [Major Road Projects Victoria] have failed and refused to share basic information despite repeated requests from various community groups and individuals.
This includes
methods of evaluating the ‘problem’, environmental reports,
traffic counts,
impact analysis and management.

LACK OF LONG TERM VIEW
Climate change has not entered the conversation!
Nillumbik’s own 'State of the Environment' report describes ongoing loss and fragmentation of habitat, and
wildlife under severe pressure.
Are we really the Green Wedge Shire
– the lungs of Melbourne -
with these actions in play?

The Federal Government’s own Department of Defence clearly describes the urgent need to address climate change. The same is stated by the UK, NZ, and many other countries, as well as leading economists and medical professionals.
Simple evidence is abundant – from the intense increase in temperature due to loss of shade and significant expansion of heat-retaining surfaces, to the urgent need to move away from reliance on
massive road networks.

SAFETY
&
HEALTH
Universally, roundabouts are known to be the safest form of intersection.
The proposed intersection design introduces a number of safety concerns that are not present with the existing roundabout.
With the reduced traffic volumes after the North East Link opens, a roundabout solution will operate safely and efficiently.
We want a pause on the project until an independent safety audit of the proposed design is conducted.

The community has been deeply affected.
Innumerable studies demonstrate the dependence of human physical/emotional/mental health on vibrant ecosystems and close proximity to these.
The Hon Jacinta Allan has commented about the importance of caring for mental health, yet does she realise the implications of her actions, and inaction?
