WHY DO THIS ?

The community has fairly requested an appropriate
solution based on solid evidence

along with transparency of documents and processes

MRPV HAS IGNORED COMMUNITY REQUESTS

ASK  MRPV  TO

PAUSE  THE  PROJECT

&

REVIEW  THE  CURRENT  'DESIGN'

IN  RESEPCTFUL  CONSULTATION  WITH  THE  COMMUNITY

VIA EMAIL:

  • Ask for an immediate PAUSE AND REDESIGN of the project

Scroll down to the end of this page for some key points as to why

  • Ask for evidence that demonstrates the real need of this project.
The Government's own justification of the North East Link clearly focuses on the significant reduction of traffic from roads such as this
    AND

  • Ask for evidence that other solutions - including roundabout solutions - have been thoroughly investigated
Internationally, studies have provided evidence to Governments regarding the advantages of roundabouts.
In many countries with much larger cities than Melbourne [let alone Eltham] regulations stipulate that roundabouts must be the first option for a workable solution.

  • Ask who is accountable if safety is compromised as a result of decisions made, and what happens if serious accidents increase.
International studies demonstrate the number and severity of accidents increases with signalled intersections compared to roundabouts.
Experienced traffic safety engineers have raised significant concerns with the overall design of MRPV's proposed intersection.

  • Ask why they have not adequately responded to community objections, repeated and ongoing requests for consultation, and repeated and ongoing requests for access to information.

  • Ask for details of their Environmental Management Strategies, and protection of the endangered Eltham Copper Butterfly recently sighted in the area

  • Ask to see calculations for traffic flow and changes in waiting times given a significant increase in stop lights/traffic signals.

Our objective is to achieve an evidence-based solution

Remember: you don’t have to have a complete grasp of all issues to take action!

Demand rigorous investigations
into all aspects of this project, including

  • Safety of proposed MRPV design, what studies have been undertaken, and who remains accountable if there is an increase in accidents?

  • Traffic forecasting for this project appears to be flawed, raising questions about the business case for the project. Forecasts that are consistent with the North East Link must be used.

  • Governance and transparency, including why most documents and related information are withheld from the public, and requests for such information are being impeded.

  •  Environmental Management Strategy and relevant EPBC referrals must be completed satisfactorily and available to the public

  • Financial management and accountability - why spend this much money on a roundabout when the North-East Link will solve most problems for the foreseeable future?

  • Community consultation was poorly managed - better efforts are needed

  • Viable alternatives such as those already presented by experienced engineers should be developed using accurate modelling, safety considerations, and sustainability measures.
